About Phil

This is the first in a series looking at Psalm 65 - You Crown The Year - focusing on how in Christ, we have the genetics of an overcomer, He crowns the year with goodness because we have decided to wear the crown he's given to us.

Psalm 65:9 You Visit the earth and water it, You greatly enrich it; The river of God is full of water; You provide their grain, For so You have prepared it. You water its ridges abundantly, You settle its furrows; You make it soft with showers, You bless its growth. You crown the year with Your goodness, and Your paths drip with abundance. They drop on the pastures of the wilderness, and the little hills rejoice on every side. The pastures are clothed with flocks; the valleys also are covered with grain; They should for joy, they also sing.

This Psalm is talking about the blessing of God falling upon the families, the circumstances and businesses of the people of God. This speaks of the rains falling, softening the soil, the wilderness coming alive, flocks increasing, valleys covered with grain and there being shouts of joy and singing. This blessing of abundance fell upon the people as a result of their spiritual life thriving. Our spiritual life is the fountainhead of great blessing accumulating in our life.

As we come to the close of this year I would like to think that you are being renewed and refreshed in every way. Your families and friends come together and relationships are renewed. We get ourselves away on a break and feel physically, mentally and emotionally refreshed and renewed. However, this can be a time of spiritual renewal as well. The greatest crowning you and I can receive from the Lord is a renewing of that fire, that passion, that hunger and thirst for God. A crown is given to people who have risen to an occasion. They have won something. God knows how many tough things you have got through this year, but you're still standing.

James 1:12 Blessed is the man who endures temptation; for when he has been approved, he will receive the crown of life which the Lord has promised to those who love Him.

The crown of life, which is the authority to impart salvation and life giving energy, belongs to those who have successfully emerged from resisting temptations to break their moral character. Blessing will fall upon the 'approved' person. The approval comes from enduring through the trial. Everyone of us will face trials, which are tests, which are designed to equip us for the next stage of our journey the next level we are going to. The trial does not last forever. We are not just involved with principles and forces. We are involved with a living God who is personally involved in approving and rewarding those He is dealing with developing, forming and shaping. Even though it's always hard to see at the time, our worst days can actually be turned around by the Lord to become our best days.

Your outlook determines the outcome, and your attitude determines action. God tells us to expect trials. It is not "if you fall into various testings" but "when you fall into various testings". The believer who expects his Christian life to be easy is in for a shock.

2 Timothy 2:12 If we endure hardship, we will reign with him.

Every time we gain victory we gain greater authority in life, great faith comes from great trials. It is undeniable that God will lead us through trials with a purpose. trials without Christ seemingly have no purpose, meaningless pain is the most difficult problem to understand in our world. Any kind of pain we encounter has purpose attached to it. It is foolish to ignore the fact that we will encounter pain at times in our Christian walk. To accept this fact arms us for the battles.

The great point of this Psalm though is that God crowns every year we are in Christ with goodness. His promise is;

Romans 6:28 And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose.

This is the crown that sits upon every year for you. No matter what has happened, God will take it and make it work together for good. A crown means it rules. This means that goodness will rule over every circumstance you face when Christ is living within. In Christ we have the genetics of an overcomer within us.

1 John 5:4 For whatever is born of God overcomes the world. And this is the victory that has overcome the world - our faith.

God crowns the year with goodness because we have decided to wear the crown he's given to us. Let me say this again - in Christ, you have the genetics of an overcomer. Because you are born again and because you are in Christ and because you love God your year will be crowned with goodness.
